tickle
- 14c., of uncertain origin, possibly a frequentive form of tick (2) in its older sense of "to touch." Meaning "to excite agreeably" is a translation of L. titillare. Ticklish is late 16c. in literal and figurative senses. Tickled "pleased, happy" is from 1586.
